On Friday, clay discs will fly in the air not just for fun, but to help fund travel and equipment expenses for The University of West Alabama’s student athletes. UWA has partnered with Soggy Bottom Lodge, a hunting resort in Marengo County featuring deer, duck and quail hunting, bass fishing and skeet shooting, to host the event.

For the event, participants can choose between a team shoot and a fun shoot. The team shoot is open to five-person teams with multiple shooting stations. For the fun shoot, participants will be given 10 minutes of shooting each.

Shooters will aim for targets flying at different angles, coming from different directions and traveling at varying speeds. From the novice skeet shooter to the more experienced shooter, the event plans to appeal to all skill levels.

The schedule for the benefit skeet shoot is as follows:

  • Morning team shoot: 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Barbecue lunch
  • Fun shoot: 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Afternoon team shoot: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Single registration is $150 and covers the fun shoot, barbecue lunch and one raffle ticket. The $500 registration fee includes shooting positions for two people in the fun shoot, barbecue lunch for both shooters, two raffle tickets and sponsor recognition. The registration for the team shoot is $1,000 and includes shooting positions for five people, barbecue lunches and raffle tickets for all five and sponsor recognition. All proceeds from this event will help the UWA soccer teams pay for travel, uniforms and soccer equipment throughout the season!

Clay discs and safety gear will be provided, but participants should being appropriate skeet shooting guns and shells. Soggy Bottom Lodge is an enclosed preserve located at 18619 Highway 43 in Linden. Visit www.soggybottomlodge.com to learn more!
