From muddy 5K’s to poetry and pageants, the events calendar reflects varying interests that inspire us to get out and about. Alpha Sigma Tau Rock-A-Thon, April 4
- What: The sisters of Alpha Sigma Tau will host games and sell baked goods to raise money for the Breast Cancer Research Foundation of Alabama.
- Where: Webb Hall (front steps)
- When: 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Poetry at the Lake, April 4
- What: One of the English program’s favorite annual traditions, Poetry at the Lake invites students and faculty to gather next to UWA’s scenic Lake LU for poetry readings and hot dogs. The poetry that is read must be one’s original material, and readers are limited to five minutes.
- Where: Lake LU Lower Pavilion
- When: 5 to 9 p.m.
Mental Health Fair, April 7
- What: Learn about local mental health resources and spread awareness for mental health education.
- Where: McConnell Field/Lyon Hall Quad
- When: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Miss Paragon Pageant, April 11
- What: Livingston’s’ Loveliest compete for the title of Miss Paragon at this annual pageant sponsored by UWA’s Blue Key Honor Society.
- Where: Bibb Graves Auditorium
- When: 7 to 9 p.m.
IMC3 Annual Conference, April 12
- What: A competitive conference for high school students in Alabama and Mississippi who are studying integrated marketing communications. Competitions include graphic design, news anchoring, news writing, photography, public relations and video editing.
- Where: Bell Conference Center
- When: 8:45 a.m. to 4:15 p.m.
Hypnotist, April 12
- What: The Campus Activities Board hosts a professional hypnotist at Bibb Graves Auditorium to wow the audience with live hypnosis demonstrations.
- Where: Bibb Graves Auditorium
- When: 7 to 10 p.m.
Springfest, April 13
- What: This annual event hosted by the Campus Activities Board features outdoor activities, tents, inflatables, games, barbecue and more.
- Where: Gilbert Lawn
- When: Noon to 7 p.m.
Drink Think: “A Personal Approach to Alcohol,” April 19 and 20
- What: A fun and interactive program featuring a serious discussion about one’s personal choice concerning alcohol use and abuse on campus.
- Where: Lyon Hall Auditorium
- When: 6 to 8 p.m.
Muddy Tiger 5K Obstacle Course, April 22
- What: Don’t be afraid to get dirty during this strength-and-endurance-testing 5K that features challenging obstacles surrounded by mud and water.
- Where: Intramural Fields, Campbell Environmental Education Center, Lake LU
- When: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Spring Choir Concert, April 24
- What: The UWA Choir showcases its musical talent for its annual spring concert.
- Where: Bibb Graves Auditorium
- When: 7 to 9 p.m.
